2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Revitalize Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Management Change Comes After Lukewarm Response

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a more defined vision.

Ismailer stated that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to address gamer demands.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the entire content from Ismailer's announcement:

Team—

I understand you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that partnership to persist.”

With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last fall’s the game testing phase was informative. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to heart and overhauled the title with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our audience.

The belief in this project increases every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. Following some time of conversations, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s management and experience in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having dedicated the past decade and a half creating and leading some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.

Please join me in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to keep witnessing the evolution of the game in the time to ahead.

The President

"Face the opponents with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that shift every match. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or take a risk, risk it all, and pray your group can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."

Project Ethos has not yet received an confirmed release date or consoles, but fans can look forward to more updates as production advances.
